Public libraries

Problem

There are only a few libraries in Cameroon, mainly in large cities such as Yaoundé, Douala and Buea, while the rural population has no access to these facilities. This inadequate availability of library services leads to a lack of educational resources and information, which particularly limits the literary and academic development of people in rural areas. Many people, especially women, are illiterate and struggle to learn basic reading and writing skills.

Goal

Our project aims to provide access to library services for as many people as possible in Cameroon, especially in rural areas. We aim to provide a comprehensive collection of literature in various fields, including fiction and non-fiction. Our libraries offer materials in the official languages of Cameroon, French and English, as well as current newspapers and magazines. We also organize regular reading and writing courses for illiterate people, with a focus on supporting women. We also offer rooms for pupils and students to study and do their homework. In a later phase of the project, we plan to expand our collections to include school books in order to further improve educational resources.
